about me
I am 22 years old. I will be graduating from Crichton College at the beginning of May with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Biblical Studies.
I’m preparing for an 11 month internship in Durban, South Africa. I leave May 25, 2010. I will be going through an organization at my church called Go Global Missions. Some of what I will be doing is helping local missionaries, participating in outreaches, and feeding children at CarePoints.
If you’re reading this and you know me well, then you know this will be my 4th trip to Africa. If you didn’t know that then allow me to explain; The past 3 summers I have been on short-term missions trips to Africa through my church The Life Church of Memphis. All trips were particularly to Swaziland. They have only been 2 week trips, which is nowhere near the extent of the trip I am about to take.
The first trip, in the summer of 2007, was to Swaziland with a 2 day venture to Nairobi, Kenya. In Swaziland, the team worked with Children’s Cup at CarePoints feeding and playing with children. When in Nairobi, we went on a prayer walk through Kibera Slum, which is the largest slum in Africa. The second trip, in the summer of 2008, was to Swaziland shortly after Healing Place Church launched their Swaziland Campus. We worked at local schools teaching kids the basics of basketball and inviting them to a big youth event at the church. We also visited many Children’s Cup CarePoints. The third trip, in the summer of 2009, was to Swaziland and a few days to Durban, South Africa. In Swaziland, we helped HPC Swazi host a Pastor’s Conference that lasted 3 days. Also, on the Saturday we were there we helped put on a VBS at various CarePoints throughout Swaziland. When we went to Durban, we served at a church in a local township cleaning up around the church and paving the walls of a new addition to it.
With all this said, I definitely can say that God has put a place for Africa in my heart and a heart to serve His people. I am looking forward to being able to go back and continue living out the plan God has for my life.
